The Mountain Village that Shaped Pier Giorgio Frassati

Pollone is a quiet village in the Biella province of Piedmont, surrounded by beautiful hills and forests. The village is home to several historic churches, including the parish church of Sant’Eusebio, which was built over many centuries and remains a central place of worship for locals. Pollone’s peaceful setting, combined with its rich history, makes it both a scenic and meaningful place for visitors.

Pollone holds special importance as the childhood summer home of Pier Giorgio Frassati. His family villa still stands, and for decades his grave was in the village cemetery before his remains were moved to Turin in 1990. Even so, about 2,000 pilgrims visit each year to honor his memory and draw inspiration from his example of faith and service. The International Frassati Path starts in Pollone and winds through the surrounding mountains toward the Sanctuary of Oropa. Along the way, hikers pass Poggio Frassati, where an outdoor altar and display panels share his words and spiritual reflections, allowing visitors to follow both his physical route and his spiritual journey.
