Church of San Gregorio al Celio
Roma Roma RM
San Gregorio al Celio, founded in the 6th century on Saint Gregory the Great’s family estate, became a monastery and a center for Christian mission. From here, Pope Gregory initiated the conversion of the Anglo-Saxons. Rebuilt in the Baroque era, it features an elegant façade by Giovanni Battista Soria and frescoes by Domenichino and Antonio Viviani.
In 1968, Mother Teresa established a mission here, and her order continues to serve the poor. A site of history and living faith, San Gregorio al Celio remains a testament to Christian charity and service.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
As I enter the sacred space of the Church of San Gregorio al Celio, fill my heart with peace and reverence. May this pilgrimage draw me closer to You, deepening my faith and renewing my spirit. Guide my steps as I walk in the footsteps of those who have come before me, seeking Your presence and grace.
Bless this journey with moments of reflection and inspiration. May I find solace in prayer, strength in Your Word, and companionship in the communion of saints. Open my heart to the lessons You wish to impart, and may I carry Your love and teachings back into the world.
Through the intercession of Saint Gregory the Great, may I grow in wisdom, compassion, and humility. Let this pilgrimage be a testament of my devotion to You and a step forward on my path to holiness.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
