The Basilica of Santa Trofimena in Minori, Amalfi Coast, exemplifies 18th-century religious architecture. The church is renowned for housing the relics of St. Trofimena, a Sicilian martyr. Tradition holds that her bones were found on the beach between the 7th and 8th centuries and initially placed in a nearby temple.
Minori became a bishopric in 987, with a cathedral erected at the site. Due to decay, the original church was demolished and rebuilt in Neoclassical style between 1747 and the early 19th century. Today, it features a Baroque crypt and a 19th-century bell tower. The basilica remains a vital pilgrimage site, celebrating St. Trofimena’s life and miracles three times a year.
