Santa Maria della Consolazione
84 Via della Consolazione Roma
The church is near the Roman Forum and the basilica of Saint Anastasia of Palatine. The name of one of the smaller churches in Rome derives from events back in 1385 when a man paid to have an image of the Virgin Mary placed next to Tarpeian Rock to console fellow christians on death row. In 1470, the church was built, with the design by Martino Longhi the Elder.
Looking at the exterior of the Church are statues of the prophets Isaiah, Zechariah, Ezekiel, and Jeremiah. The interior of the church has three naves, five chapels on both sides, and three apses. You will find many beautiful pieces of art including, Passion by Taddeo Zuccari, Virgin with Child by Livio Agresti, icon of Mary, a fresco of the Madonna della Consolazione, marble relief of the Mystical Marriage of Saint Catherine by Raffaello da Montelupo, Adoration of the Magi, and Adoration of the Shepherds by Giovanni Baglione.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
We gather in spirit at the Church of Santa Maria della Consolazione, a sanctuary of comfort and hope dedicated to Our Blessed Mother. We thank You for this sacred place, where countless souls have found solace in the compassionate embrace of Mary, Our Lady of Consolation.
As we reflect on the tender care of the Blessed Virgin, may we be reminded of her constant intercession and motherly love. Grant us the grace to seek her guidance and to trust in her unfailing support as we journey through life's challenges.
In this beautiful church, may we find peace and reassurance, knowing that in our times of need, Mary is with us, leading us ever closer to You. Let her example of faith and obedience inspire us to follow Your will with courage and humility.
Bless all who enter this holy place, that they may be comforted and renewed in spirit. May the intercession of Our Lady of Consolation bring healing and hope to those who are burdened and weary.
Through the loving presence of Mary, may we grow in faith and be strengthened in our commitment to living out Your love and mercy.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
