Pauline Roots and University Ties: The Hidden Gem of Pest
The Church of the Holy Virgin Mary, also known as the University Church, was constructed in 1715 to restore a Christian presence to the site and replace the mosque that used to stand in its place while the city was controlled by the Ottoman Empire.
It was initially operated by the Pauline Fathers, but then passed to the University and since 1805 has been a central part of the city's Catholic seminary.
