Explore the Splendor of the Pontifical Gardens

Website | Tickets

Set in the scenic Alban Hills of Castel Gandolfo, the Villa Barberini Pontifical Gardens combine natural beauty with rich history. Covering about 55 hectares, the gardens are part of the Pontifical Villas, papal estates recognized by the Lateran Pacts of 1929. They are built on the site of Emperor Domitian’s ancient Roman villa, and visitors can still see remains like a semicircular amphitheater and underground corridors.

The Pontifical Gardens have been opened to the public, allowing visitors to explore these historic grounds firsthand. Guided tours provide insight into the gardens’ history, architectural elements, and the role of the papacy in preserving cultural and natural heritage. Tours usually conclude near Villa Barberini, offering sweeping views of Lake Albano and the surrounding hills, making the gardens not just a historical site but also a serene retreat for reflection and inspiration.
