The Museum of the Shroud (Museo della Sindone) is entirely dedicated to the study and history of the Shroud of Turin, one of Christianity’s most mysterious and debated relics. It is located in the city’s historic center, on Via San Domenico, just a short walk from the cathedral where the original Shroud is kept.

Inside, visitors can view a full-scale replica of the Shroud, along with a wide range of exhibits that trace its known history, from its medieval appearance in France to its journey to Turin. The museum houses ancient documents, photographs, artworks, and religious artifacts, providing context on how the Shroud has influenced Christian devotion and iconography over the centuries. It also features scientific displays and forensic models, which illustrate the numerous medical and technological studies that have been conducted to understand the cloth’s origins, including the major STURP investigation in 1978 and the controversial radiocarbon dating tests of 1988.

While the original Shroud of Turin remains preserved in the Cathedral of Turin, the museum plays an essential role in presenting its story, offering a balanced perspective that combines faith, history, and science.

Cathedral of Turin

The Cathedral of Turin, officially known as the Cattedrale di San Giovanni Battista, is one of the most significant religious and historical landmarks in northern Italy. What truly sets the cathedral apart, however, is that it houses the Shroud of Turin, a linen cloth that many believe to be the burial shroud of Christ.
