Rock Chapel (Cave Church)

From Hermit's Haven to Holy Shrine: The Rock Chapel's Sacred Legacy

In the middle ages, a hermit by the name of Ivan took up shelter in this cave because of thermal springs near the entrance, which he believed would help him minister to the sick and infirmed. Centuries later in 1926, a group of pilgrims returning from Lourdes dedicated a shrine here and designed it to resemble the grotto at Lourdes.

The Rock Chapel is dedicated  to Our Lady of the Hungarians. It is also recorded that Cardinal Jósef Mindszenty would visit the shrine and pray here several times before imprisonment by the communist regime.
