Baroque Brilliance in the Heart of Venice

The Church of Santa Maria del Giglio (also called Santa Maria Zobenigo) is a stunning example of Baroque art and architecture in Venice. It was first founded in the 9th century and rebuilt in the late 17th century thanks to the generosity of the noble Barbaro family. While the church is dedicated to Mary, the Mother of Christ, it is also closely linked to the memory of Admiral Antonio Barbaro. What makes this church especially unique is its façade, which is decorated not with religious statues but with maps, military symbols, and portraits of the Barbaro family.
