Church of Saint Mary of Miracles
Campiello dei Miracoli Venezia Venezia
A Miraculous Legacy of a Sacred Image
In the late 15th century, a small image of the Virgin Mary, painted on wood and placed in a niche in a Venetian street, began to draw the attention of the faithful. It was said that the image possessed miraculous powers—healing the sick, granting protection, and inspiring devotion across the city. As veneration of the image grew, the local community decided to build a church worthy of the Virgin's grace. Thus, the Church of Saint Mary of Miracles (Santa Maria dei Miracoli) was born.
Unlike many other Venetian churches, it has a unified and harmonious structure, with every surface clad in delicately colored marble. The interior feels like a jewel box, rich with decoration yet balanced in design. At the heart of the apse stands the miraculous image of the Virgin, still venerated today as it was over 500 years ago.
