In the Heart of the City, the Badia offers you a space for silent Eucharistic Adoration

Located in the heart of Florence, opposite the Bargello, the Benedictine monastery of Santa Maria degli Angeli is the city's oldest. Founded in 978 by Willa, mother of Marquis Ugo of Tuscany, it was extensively renovated in Gothic style by Arnolfo di Cambio in 1285, realigning the church with its apse facing Via del Proconsolo. The church’s interior, transformed in the 18th century, features a blend of styles and notable works, including Filippino Lippi's *Apparition of the Madonna to San Bernardo* and funerary monuments by Mino da Fiesole.

The Cloister of the Oranges, built around 1435 by Bernardo Rossellino, includes frescoes depicting the Life of Saint Benedict, attributed to the “Master of the Cloister of the Oranges.”

The monks of Jerusalem currently inhabit the abbey, continuing the legacy of Willa's original vision. Historical remnants include a 10th-century bell tower base, a marble slab, and mullioned windows from the original church. Arnolfo di Cambio’s renovations realigned the church, with frescoes by Giotto and others enhancing its grandeur.
