The Spiritual Beacon Overlooking the City

The Church of Santa Maria al Monte dei Cappuccini stands on top of Monte dei Cappuccini, a hill that overlooks the River Po and the city of Turin. The site was given to the Capuchin order in 1581 by Charles Emmanuel I of Savoy, as part of his effort to show himself as a strong supporter of the Catholic faith.

One of the most well-known stories linked to the church happened during the French siege of Turin in 1640, when a miraculous flame is said to have appeared from the tabernacle as French soldiers tried to desecrate the church. A painting at the entrance shows this event, and bayonet marks on the walls can still be seen today. The church is not only important for its history and faith but also loved for its beautiful views of Turin and the Alps.
