The Pontifical Irish College in Rome is a historic seminary and institution of higher learning that has played a central role in the formation of Irish clergy for over four centuries. Founded in 1628 by Cardinal Ludovico Ludovisi with the support of the Irish bishops, the College was established to provide a place where Irish seminarians could pursue their priestly formation in close proximity to the heart of the Catholic Church.
