Sacred Resilience: The Enduring Bell Tower of St. Mary Magdalene
The Church of St. Mary Magdalene was allowed to remain a Catholic church during the time that Matthias Church was turned into a mosque. During WW II, the nave was severely damaged, but the full destruction happened during the communist period; civil leaders requested that restoration work be stopped and the church destroyed.
Only the bell tower remains today.
